Bamburgh Castle Wedding

Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland.

Bamburgh was an ancient royal seat - a little while ago,
(what passes for a little while around here is about 1200 years).
well - ok, it was quite a long little while ago.

but. . . Bamburgh still packs quite a punch,
the castle is one of the most spectacular in the country and has been used as a set for numerous films. . .

The castle was also the setting for the rather lovely wedding of Kelly and Rick. .

hello, we have some flowers lurking above,

wots going on ? they ask

they look like little characters, don't they !

well - they do if you've been watching any kind of sci fi film which has odd alien life forms with strange faces

Am I the only one who sees faces and creatures in things . . . .?

more sensible things happening here . . a car swoops through the castle gate,

( your photographer was dangling off the windswept battlements, waiting for a glmipse of it.

(glmipse = badly spelt glimpse. . . . I never was very good at typing . . )

hah, it swooshes through the gates, good job the portcullis was up,
or the car would be diced into lots of little cube shaped things

note the ribbons on the bonnet . . a hint as to who might be inside.

you guessed right . . . Kelly was in the car !

it's blowing a gale outside, so I quickly take a couple of pictures of our bride as she enters the building,
then run (sorry . . . walk calmly) back inside and hide out of sight behind the guys

(I'm lurking under / behind a table here in order to get this picture and a series like it)

using secret passageways, with which this castle is riddled,
I sneak about unseen,
emerging, covered in cobwebs, through a dusty trapdoor in the aisle,
pop up my head and quickly take a picture -
ooh - wot a lovely view of the wedding from here.

and using a lens which is a bit like a huge telescope,
I get some pictures of Kelly and Rick sharing lots of goodwill just as they get wed.

it's a kiss, silly.

I suppose you haven't seen one of those before ?

stop staring . . .

the lady in the lilac top behind Kelly and Rick is one of the registrars,

you can tell that she's really happy for Kelly and Rick,

her smile says it all !

Rick is a seriously nice guy.

he also smiles quite a bit !

phew, it's still windy outside, but we brave the elements for a quick trot around the castle,
well - why not ?
they've hired it - they might as well go out and survey the buildings . . .

I sneakily get some pictures involving the castle at this point . . .

(it would be a real shame not to)

anyhow, I know that the castle can be a dark moody brooding thing,

but it managed to pose in a rather jolly mood for these pictures . . just for Kelly and Rick !

Kelly and Rick in the foreground - big moody castle creeping up behind them

. . . . .. boo . . .!

gosh, it's so windy outside, we really have to retire back inside the castle,
never mind, it's a lovely old building,
and it allows us to get some pictures showing off the back of Kelly's dress.

oh . . and we get pictures of Rick too . . .

admiring Kelly. . . well, it's the sort of thing a guy like him would do isn't it !

we continue to sneak and snoop about the building, snapping as we go.

anyhow. enough of such things,

a visit to this place isn't complete without a blast along the beach,
with a 100 miles an hour gale whistling through your hair.

I love this picture -

what happened was this . . . .

Kelly and Rick were set up somewhere along the beach,
I was just slipping my lens thingumyjig onto my camera.

I think they thought I was just fiddling with the tripod or something
and they just started dancing for about 30 seconds . . it was pure magic . .

gotcha . . .!

Ah - now they know that I'm taking a picture, so they pose a bit . .

and a bit more . . quite a bit more actually - we got hundreds of images . . .

(I believe that the picture above ended up printed on canvas as a pressie from Kellys Mum to her daughter)

oooh wots that ?

itsatabledeckie

sorry. I should speak more slowly

it's a table decoration.

(it just doesn't sound so much fun when you say it like that though)

Ricks speech fires off and gets a good reception at the reception. .

but hey, what's going on above . . ?

well, I'll tell you a little story here.

during the meal, the best man whispered in my ear,
he said - PSSSSSST (whilst whispering - he accidentally flicked some gravy into my ear at this point)

(I must remember to lean away when people do that in future)

anyhow - the contents of the whisper were as follows . . .

PSSSSST -

'we couldn't throw confetti up at the castle - because they don't allow it.

so we're going to trash the room with it . .. '

I said

'psssst'.

'instead . . why don't we all sneak out of the building in two's and threes,
then when Kelly and Rick wonder where everyone's gone,

they'll step out of the doorway and we can ambush them with confetti'.

he said.

'pssssst'      (I leaned away this time)

'good idea'.

so that's what we did.
and that's why the little girls are looking through the doorway,
waiting for Kelly and Rick to start wondering where everyone is !

hah it worked . . surprise surprise !

and who wants to walk back inside. . ?

nobody . . .

at this point, an impromptu conga fired off,

a passing school party stopped in the road and gave a massive round of applause as the conga went into the road, looped the loop, stopped traffic, frightened the local vicar and zoomed back into the hotel door !

above we see the conga artists congering (is that a word ?)

dozens of kids in a school party on the pavement grinned and cheered,

HURRRAYYYY .. (it was quite something to behold !)

the conga then looped and disappeared back into the hotel.

dunno what the staff made of it . . ..

aha . . what's next ? PARTY TIME !

and just before I left . I saw Kelly and Rick's first dance . .

thank you for a lovely day guys .
